Rap Center
Shawnee, Oklahoma
USA

The Rap Center existed around 1970-74. The first location was at the NW corner of Independence & Kickapoo in a basement The second and final location was in a small building on West Franklin street near the Shawnee Regional Airport.

As far as I know, there are no other records in existence of the Rap Center other than a photo album with pictures of its annual event, A Day In The Park, some Christmas time snapshots and a publication called Expressions of Madness.

Nearly every type of person crossed the doors of the Rap Center. Some to experience the atmosphere, some to engage in conversation, and some to listen to music or play games. Popcorn & soda pop were the menu.

Basically, the Rap Center was a place where someone could go when they didn't feel they had any other place to hang out.
